Decades Reflection
Throughout this project, I learned about the style and fashion of San Francisco. I also learned about the culture and a part of San Francisco called Chinatown. I've never known what the fashion and clothing was like at the time there, so I learned about the bright and extravagant colors the children wore in the 70's. I researched the structure that creates an entrance to Chinatown, called the San Francisco Dragon Gate.
One connection I see from the 70's in San Francisco now is that the drag queens are still a big thing and the fashion is very similar. I feel that people are more accepting now to the drag shows than before, that's a difference I noticed. The architecture of San Francisco is still nice, but hasn't changed very much since then.
My personal favorite artifact that my group created would be our diorama. This is my favorite because it includes the main artifacts from the original structure and it looks a bit similar to the main building. I liked the colors we used for the roofing and the sign in the middle.
I learned most about the social/cultural aspects of San Francisco in the 1970's.
If I could change one thing about this project, it would be writing the choose your own adventure story. I wouldn't include that part to the project.
The book we read was titled "Virgin Soul" by Judy Juanita. It was written about the late 60's and early 70's in the life of a young African American woman. She went through a lot of obstacles and she went to college for 4 years. It described living there in a pretty well way.
The food we chose to bring to the potluck was Lays chips.
